THE ANONYMOUS PETITION

The Managing Director of a Government Corporation called clerk Mendis and told him that the Personnel Officer, has recommended him for a promotion. The Director also told him that the Director has received an anonymous petition against him alleging, inter alia, that he was taking bribes. The Director gave the petition to Mendis and asked him to read it. , After he had done so, the Director asked him “Now what have you to say with regard to the allegations against you.?

'Sir ”said Mendis, ”Will you allow me to do what I would have done if were you?

"Carry on, no objection,’ said the Director.

 Mendis then tore the petition into bits and put the pieces into the Waste paper basket. Though at the outset the-Director was shocked, he thought for a 'while and said, "'you can go ‘You are promoted. YOU have taught me how to deal with anonymous petitions!”
